Past Projects
Basement Renovation
A total renovation. This basement was gutted down the sheetrock and concrete floor. The bar area was rebuilt with cabinets finished in a grey lacquer with black glaze and clear lacquer finish.A custom built-in closet was finished with the same finish. The back wall of the bar and bathroom were finished with whitewashed wood slats. The floor was finished in 24” x 6” distressed wood-look porcelain tile.
Kitchen Renovation
This is the kitchen in my house. We kept the original solid oak cabinets and had them professionally refinished (thanks to help from my good friend, Mark). All doors were taken off and scrubbed with mineral spirits along with the frames of the cabinets. One coat of marzipan-colored lacquer, a coat of pewter glaze, and a clear lacquer finish transformed these cabinets from outdated to modern. The original soffit above the cabinets was removed to open the space up. The old brass hardware was replaced with updated satin nickel hardware. The old Formica countertops were replaced with granite and a tumbled stone backsplash was installed from countertop to bottom of cabinets. LED rope lighting along the cabinet tops added the finishing touch.
Truck Bed
My buddy, who is a mechanic, had this 1947 Ford truck that needed a wood bed put on it. I was more than happy to help. It's not for work anymore, so to keep costs down, I used white pine boards and stained them with TWP deck sealer. Added metal straps to the side to help tie the boards together and I thought they really looked cool. My friend was super happy with how it turned out, as was I.
Cedar Chests
The chest in the last two pics I made as a gift for a friend from cedar that came off my parent’s farm. I knew what kind of hardware I wanted but couldn't find it. I wound up going to a flea market and searching until I found a suitcase with the hardware I wanted. After pulling the hardware off the suitcase and using it on this cedar chest, it turned out exactly how I pictured it in my head.
Clock
My friend had this chunk of wood from a tree off of his grandpa’s farm and wanted a clock made from it. The piece is about 20" in diameter. I used house numbers for the main numbers and drove 16 penny sinkers and bent them over for the intermediate numbers. I used an old saw blade to hide the clock works.
Harley Davidson Shelf
My friend, John, happens to be one hell of a Harley mechanic and wanted a shelf for all the old parts he had replaced on his motorcycle. This was his "donations to the gods of speed" shelf.
Porch Remodel
This was the first project I took on with my Dad on my current home. The rail was replaced with cedar posts and black aluminum spindles, and the gable was redone in vinyl shake with an added freeze board capped with white aluminum trim coil.
End Tables
These nightstands/end tables were made from live edge oak we had in the barn. I squared the back edge and glued two pieces together for each top. It was challenging and fun to make these.
Wedding Hoops
These hoops were made for my friend, who is a wedding planner. I used two layers of 1/4" birch plywood, 1" wide per hoop. They were glued and clamped around a template. I put 3 hoops together to make each sphere, then Jess put the greenery on them. The bride was happy!
Bed
I made two of these platform beds for my friend’s boys. The frames, rails, and headboards were made from rough-sawn white oak and were very rustic. The legs were made from gas pipe pieces and flanges.
Bay Window Replacement
This is the bay window in my living room. After replacing the window itself, I decided to trim it out from floor to ceiling and add some panel details.
